We’ve recently built the core part of the new Sizzorworks website. A new client we picked up a few months back, Sizzorworks Style Studio is the ultimate salon in Fort Wayne, IN. I had the chance to walk through the salon during the web development and the salon is pretty cool. When you walk in the grand entrance to the lobby, it’s a setting of no clutter, a reception desk, upmarket images hanging off the wall via wireframing and a few shelves of products. Off the main lobby, there is a corridor that splits off to the right and left. Down the corridors are the stylist stations complete with their own private room and pocket doors for the ultimate stylist/client relationship. I haven’t visited a whole lot of salons in town but Sizzorworks Style Studio is top notch.

During the design process of Sizzorworks website, the managing party wanted something unique in a way with large abstract backgrounds per page, functionality of a third party marketing and scheduling company for booking online appointments and an overall upmarket design. It was important to get the core part of the site up for advertisement reasons but the development of content will continue over the following months.

They will be building their services in the following months and I think I heard the mention of a barbershop station for the guys. That caught me by the earlobes as it seems good ole’ fashion barbershops are going extinct. I’ll be one of the first in the door if they do indeed open it.

Google makes search results more timely

Google has always been a fascinating company from the early days to present. After recently reading the book, In The Plex by Steven Levy, you really start to grasp how their search engine works and the algorithmic tweaks they have done over the years to improve search results, not to mention the history and timelines with Adwords, Adsense, etc. Google makes more than 500 changes to its algorithm a year that they call a freshness algorithm.

Ultimately, as a web development company that also deals with search engine optimizing, truly understanding how Google works gives us better insight to the SEO game. I’ve stated this before on our blog and to clients, anybody that promises you front page results instantly, you probably want to stay away from. SEO is an ongoing process of optimizing both onsite and offsite. Keyword density within your industry plays a big role as well.

Here is a good article for anyone interested in the lastest algorithmic tweaks and why Google is implementing these tweaks presently. Rather than re-state the article, we’ll let you read it here and Google’s work to make results more timely.

A re-design

While we frequently update our site with a new look, Modine always likes to keep moving forward. With our new website design, and for fun, we’ve decided to add a store just for some fun. We’ve been developing new t-shirt designs along with some witty quotes on them. It’s really just for fun with a touch of marketing for us.

Our new Portfolio page is even a little better. It shows our most recent works including: web development, graphic designs, logo designs and some of our CAD work.

Modine picks up two new clients

Modine has recently picked up a marketing firm based in the UK, The Partnership Practice. Their web development is close to being completed and will be going live in a few weeks. The Partnership Practice has 3 core business groups: Brand partnerships, Business partnerships, Partnership services.

The Partnership Practice is a full scale marketing firm that can assist companies in branding and marketing techniques.

St. Lukes Health Systems based out of Missouri is our other new client. Modine web development will be taking on graphic design projects for the faith based, not-for-profit health system. Saint Lukes offers a range of services, from angioplasty to women’s health.

Is SEO important?

It certainly is but don’t buy into any company that says they will guarantee first page results on search engines. SEO is the fine art of onsite and offsite SEO work. It’s said that with website rankings, it’s age before beauty. In other words in takes time to “build up” your website on the web. It is an ongoing process that isn’t a one time deal. The SEO profession has taken some huge criticism because of the snaky SEO companies using practices such as link farms and other spammy attempts that will actually hurt your rankings if used.

Most merited SEO companies understand the dynamics of search engine algorithms and this is what they study and try to understand to optimize rankings. Patience is a must along with keyword relevancy research within your industry and keeping solid content on your site. A company blog within the website is a great way to facilitate your request for higher rankings. Adding new copy to a site provides the search engine “bots” to effectively crawl new content and with implimenting good keywords within that content, you can gain better results.

The first thing to understand and remember is that search engine bots or spyders can only index text files. So what does this tell you? Bots can’t read images but can read the tag attributes within the images. Bots cannot read full flash websites either because flash files aren’t text files. Not to say that you cannot have good SEO results from a flash site, they taken a lot of extra SEO work to make them visible which we’ll save for a later blog post.

iPad 2 unveiled

The iPad 2 recently was unveiled from Apple with many new features from their 1st generation iPad. Thinner, lighter and faster, the iPad 2 has 2 cameras, a blazing fast duel core A5 chip. March 2nd, 2011 was the official release date from Apple taking another forward step in the tablet market. With over 15 million iPad units sold previously, Apple still dominates the market, but what makes the 2nd generation iPad so special compared to it’s competitors? Since Apple was the innovators in the tablet market, that puts them at the top by itself as every other company has copied for the most part design and functionality of a tablet. Prices range on an iPad 2 depending on storage space and connectivity such as 3G for all around internet access. $499-$829 for an iPad 2 compared to Motorola Xoom at $799 for 32 GB of storage. The HP TouchPad will be released this summer with a price unknown. I wouldn’t recommend anything from HP considering their software to sync the HP tablet falls behind sub-prime software.

New web development for Vision Lighting Corporation

Modine web development will be starting a new build for Vision Lighting Corporation this week. Vision Lighting Corporation falls under the lighting industry and has three main tiers to their business, retrofitting, lighting maintenance and product sales. We will focus on SEO for the retrofit portion of their business and focus on design and content of their new build. Vision Lighting Corporation main focus on sales is retrofitting client’s buildings to update their bulb housings to more energy efficient units. With some buildings, their lighting is heavily outdated, costing them a fortune without new energy efficient bulb housings. In some cases, depending on the size of the project, payoff times for a retrofit project can be 3-4 years, saving nearly 70% with the new equipment installed. It really seems to be a no brainer that after 3-4 years of paying off the retrofit bill which is reflected in reduced energy bills, the company capitalizes huge on the savings of their energy bills.
